Philosophy of teaching
Learning a language is hard, especially for adults, who are not used to being exposed to the frustration that comes with learning a new language. Not knowing, not understanding, being lost, not being able to communicate effectively... Feeling like a 5-year-old all over again does not feel good. Our classes have one purpose: making the experience of learning a new language fun and engaging. There is a strong connection between emotions and learning. Emotion isn't the opposite of reason, but an essential component to it. If our emotions aren't engaged, it is hard to put our brains to work. The words emotion and motivation are related etymologically: motive comes from the Latin word motus (to move), emotion comes from the Latin word emotus (to stir up). Emotions stir us up; motives move us. There are plenty of learning resources, but we won't have access to them unless we're motivated. For the same reason, negative emotions—like fear or boredom—can have a negative impact on a student’s ability to learn. For all this to happen, we just need one thing: a good teacher. A teacher's passion is contagious. This is why our most valued asset, besides our students, is our teachers. |

Personalized instruction
For every course, students will have access to two documents: a class plan with everything we do in each class, and a personal document. If you miss a class, don’t worry! You will have the opportunity to go over the class plan and see the covered content, the class notes and the homework. In the personal document, students will introduce the answers to the written exercises and see the teacher's corrections. The teacher will use each student's personal document to write down the mistakes that the student may have made during their interventions in class, with the corresponding corrections. |
Communicative approach
The communicative approach is an approach to language teaching that emphasizes interaction: language learning is learning to communicate using the target language. We want our students to start speaking Spanish from day 1, and use the language as we do in real-life situations.
We are aware that memorizing conjugations and grammar is dull and very little motivating: we want to spare our students from becoming robots in their learning journey. Our methodology consists, therefore, in introducing grammar in a smooth way, through games and short and simple explanations; because grammar is best experienced when in context and through engaging activities.
